Happy World Water Week!

When you take water, give water...

RYALE_UNICEF_100

That’s the sentiment behind the 2012 UNICEF Tap project. Since its inception in 2007, the
UNICEF Tap Project has raised nearly $3 million in the U.S. and has helped provide clean water for millions of children globally.

This year World Water Week is even more important to me because UNICEF’s Next Generation has chosen for its next project to raise $100,000 for UNICEF’s Tap Project…water, sanitation, and hygiene programs in Togo, Vietnam, Cameroon and Mauritania.

They chose this project based on the millions of children living without safe, sanitized water. Did you know that 783 million people around the world do not have access to safe water and 2.5 billion—nearly HALF of humanity—live without proper sanitation? Millions of girls cannot attend class because they have to spend the day getting water for their families. Also, diarrhea, which is caused mainly by dirty water, is the second largest single cause of under-5 child deaths worldwide, killing more children than AIDS, Malaria and Measles combined. Inadequate access to safe water, coupled with poor hygiene practices, kill 4,000 children every day.

The UNICEF Tap Project invites you to make a difference and help give a child clean water to live.  Below are things YOU can do this week.

· Dine out at a Tap participating restaurant and discuss water issues over dinner. Find a local restaurant in your area: http://www.tapproject.org/restaurants/

· Spread the word about our current project – to raise $100,000 for water, sanitation & hygiene programs in Togo, Vietnam, Cameroon, and Mauritania.

· Set up a personal fundraising page for this
project at: http://www.unicefusa.org/about/unicefs-next-generation/fundraise-for-ung.html.

· The 2012 UNICEF Tap Project National Sponsor, Giorgio Armani Fragrances, has a challenge for UNICEF supporters that can help provide clean water for children. For the first 100,000 people who “like” the Acqua for Life Facebook page from March 1-31, Giorgio Armani Fragrances will donate $1 to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.  $1 = 40 days of safe, clean water for a child!  So, please visit: http://www.facebook.com/acquaforlife and “like” their page & please share with your friends!
